Looking Back On 2014

It's always nice to wrap up the year with a look back at the year that was and the projects shared. Of course, there were a few BIG stories over the course of 2014 - like being published not once, not twice, but three times (!!!), breaking the 2 million page view mark on this blog and the 1.35 million follower mark over on Pinterest, launching a new omiyage.ca, and completing The Kirigami Project. But there were little things too - crafty adventures, inspiring connections with makers and entrepreneurs, exciting new product lines and many hours spent packing up orders to ship all over the world. It never fails to excite me when we ship to a country we've never shipped to before or when I come across a delightful address. I almost always want to pack myself up and go along on the journey.

But anyway, the best way to tell you about this year is really to show you. So, off we go - here's a look back on 2014's adventures and DIY projects...

2014's Creative Project seems like a good place to start
Week 13 - Tulips
Week 38 - Starburst
Week 47 - Flames
The Kirigami Project - 52 weeks, 52 paper cut designs. These are a few of my favourites, but you can see them all here.

My first book was published (and I've just started working on the next one!) Plus, I was pretty thrilled to have my projects included in Pinterest Perfect + The Simple Things.

I had the chance to interview makers and artists from all over the world about what they do. I hope to keep doing this in 2015 - it's so interesting to peek behind the curtain! You can find the whole series over on OMHG.

And I made lots of things. Mainly with tape.

The Kirigami Project - Week 52 - Snowflower

It seemed appropriate to end this project with a flower as they are my favourite designs to cut. It's a bit hard to believe that we're here at the end of 2014 - year end really does sneak up on you (or at least me) every year, doesn't it?

We'll do a proper wrap-up of The Kirigami Project in early 2015, but for now, thank you for following along and cutting beautiful things out of paper with me. And thank you to Geri for keeping my on track all year long and for turning musings in paper form into something shareable.

To create your own kirigami Snowflower, use the template below and the 6-point folding pattern.

Want to try all of December's kirigami designs? The free printable template is now available. Click on the image below to access and print the templates.

We'd love to see your versions on social media - don't forget to tag your paper cuts with #thekirigamiproject. You can find us on Twitter at @omiyage_ca & @thelanguidlion

The Kirigami Project is collaborative creative project from Marisa Edghill of Omiyage and Geri Jewitt of The Languid Lion. Marisa creates the kirigami designs and Geri turns them into printable templates. Each week in 2014, we will bring you a new kirigami design to fold and cut. Find the treasury of designs here.
