Festive Paper Ornaments

I was lucky enough to receive this paper ornament craft kit as a gift last year but tucked it away to make this year. All folded up, the ornaments are just so cute, I couldn't resist sharing!

Designed by illustrator Sam Osborne in the UK, these Scandinavian-inspired ornaments are full of colour and quirky details. You can find the ornament set in Sam's Etsy shop - she offers the ornaments as either a craft kit or as a printable version (which is great if you've got access to a good colour printer and want to get making right away!)

The kit includes 12 unique ornament designs to cut and make. Some are definitely trickier than others. That multi-faceted sphere and I had words. They weren't particularly nice words, but it folded up nicely in the end, so we made up. I'm super pleased with the whole set - they'll look extra-nice on our tree this year.

Start by cutting out the designs, then grab your bone folder and glue or double-sided tape and get crafty!

Pyramids, diamonds, cubes and spheres... do you have a favourite?

Not just decorations, I think these would make the greatest Advent calendar, don't you? Grab the printable version, make two copies on card stock (or reasonably thick paper) and then fill each one with a small treat. Individual chocolates would fit perfectly!

Have you seen or tried any great paper craft kits lately? Please share in the comments.

The Kirigami Project - Week 47 - Flames

And here we are already - the end of November and the end of our second-to-last month of kirigami. In November I reached for cozy Autumn colours and let my scissors flow in curves. If you compare last week's design with this week's, you'll see that the templates look quite similar (I'll admit to a double take) but the final design is quite different. This fold-cut-unfold-ing never ceases to be a joy - the surprise in the delicate unfolding of each design. I do hope you've enjoyed this series and been inspired to try a little kirigami beyond the snowflakes. (Speaking of which, we'll head straight into snowflake territory next week... but until then...)

This week's design reminds me of tiny dancing candle flames. To create your own Flames kirigami design, use the template below and the 4-point folding pattern.

Want to try all of November's kirigami designs?

This month's free printable is now available!

Do you have a favourite one of November's designs?

A big box of tape came back from the photographer all organized by colour.
Playing with our new MT tapes - so much fun!
Our tapes are a stocking stuffer pick in The Dance Current.

These just might be my favourite of the new tapes. Or maybe this one.
Experimenting with washi tape mosaics.

The Kirigami Project - Week 46 - Dancing

We're not doing much dancing over here... there's a bit too much snow a bit too soon and we're not terribly excited about that BUT we definitely see dancers in this kirigami designs. As well as singing mouths wide open, uvulas swinging. And one-eyed abominable snowmen - but you can probably blame that last one on the weather. What do you see?

No matter what you see, I'm sure you'll agree this design is quite lovely - dancing mythical creatures and all! To create your own Dancing Kirigami design, use the template below and the 4-point folding pattern.

Happy paper crafting!

Holiday Treat - Letterpress Tags

We have the loveliest treat for Omiyage customers this holiday!

Stags & holiday wishes. These pretty letterpressed gift tag sets are printed on cream and chipboard in our favourite bold pink.

Plus some sparkly gold Divine Twine - because what's a tag without a little twine?!

Designed by Geri Jewett of The Languid Lion and printed by Survival Letterpress, we know you're going to love them us much as we do!

The details on these cards is really incredible. Those fine lines, the scrollwork, the spots on the deer's back are all made extra-special by the texture of the letterpress printing. And the pink is a fantastic shade which reads almost red on the chipboard tags but pink-a-licious on the cream.

Of course, there's a bit of a pay-it-forward story behind these tags. You see, Joey & Amanda, the husband and wife team behind Kansas City's Survival Letterpress celebrated an Instagram milestone with a giveaway. Geri won that giveaway and decided to pay-it-forward by offering her design services (and the cards) to me. Well, since I go through business cards like water over at Omiyage, I wanted to make sure those letterpressed cards were put to really good use. So we put our heads together... and voila! Holiday tags for you!

We'll be slipping in a set of tags with every order of $25 or more for as long as they last.

The Kirigami Project - Week 45 - Four Petal Flower

I think kirigami flowers will always be my favourite. There's something quite magical about making a few cuts in a folded piece of paper then carefully unfolding a beautiful bloom. And kirigami shapes quite naturally want to take on flower shapes.

No matter how many times you fold the paper, the same basic formula for flower making holds true - lots of negative space, curved petals and a few stamens to mark the centre.

To create your own kirigami flower, use the template below and the 4-point folding pattern.

Happy flower-making!

The Kirigami Project is collaborative creative project from Marisa Edghill of Omiyage and Geri Jewitt of The Languid Lion. Marisa creates the kirigami designs and Geri turns them into printable templates. Each week in 2014, we will bring you a new kirigami design to fold and cut. Find the treasury of designs here.

Holiday Tapes Have Arrived!

Limited edition holiday tapes from masté have arrived!

Forest, illumination & neon skiers - single cuties in winter-themed designs are lovely for the holidays and beyond.

Cleverly packaged tape duos are the perfect stocking stuffers - snowman, santa and reindeer.

Or pick your favourite holiday palette. 3 sets to choose from - each packaged in an adorable house shaped box. The designs are wonderful for Christmas crafting but still appropriate for year-round use.

I love the neon skiers - which is your favourite of the new patterns?

Chasing Charlie

I couldn't resist sharing this adorable new notebook line from CharlieBoy Press. Created and printed right here in Canada but full of international charm! Geri Jewitt is the talented designer behind both The Languid Lion and this boutique letterpress shop (she also produces the templates for The Kirigami Project - busy lady!)

CharlieBoy Press was inspired by a love for letterpress and love for one special dog - Charlie the Airedale! I think, whether you're a dog lover, a travel lover or a paper goods lover, you'll find these limited edition letterpressed notebooks pretty irresistible. Wouldn't they be great as stocking stuffers? Each one even comes with it's own Chasing Charlie pencil!

The Chasing Charlie series imagines Charlie jet setting around the globe to popular places like Paris, New York, Tokyo & London. Do you have a favourite? I'm pretty partial to Yorkshire!

Find the whole Chasing Charlie series here.

The Kirigami Project - Week 44 - Forest Path

Anyone else amazed that it's already November? I'll probably keep being amazed right until it's December and then repeat. 2015 - and this project - really is flying! For this month, I've turned to warm colours and just let my scissors guide the designs - I really do love the surprises that occur when shapes aren't forced into the paper but emerge from it.

It's always hard to name the designs are aren't pre-conceived. To my eye, this week's design is full of fallen leaves with a surprise crossroads right in the middle - I think it's quite lovely, like a forest path.

To create your own forest path kirigami design, use the template below and the 4-point folding pattern.

Happy crafting!
